Waverton Coal Loader

Have a Project ?

Location: North Sydney
Completion: March 2018
Market Sector: Local Government

The multi-award winning Coal Loader project remains an incredible undertaking involving history, sustainability, heavy community engagement, urban harvest plots, Green Walls and the largest public Green Roof in Australia. The one-hectare concrete and sandstone platform is now a multi-purpose recreational and ‘outdoor classroom’ space with spectacular views of the harbour. The transformation of the disused industrial site into a place which displays best-practice sustainable technology, community gardens, native bush nursery, food gardens, regenerated parklands and a fascinating history.

StraBe Group worked with North Sydney Council and The Glascott Group to manufacture and install the raised urban harvest plots, seating and timber decks for this project. This project has since gone on to win the national PLA Park of the Year award, (AILA) NSW Cultural Heritage Award of Excellence award and the  PLA’s NSW state round for Park of the Year and Community Facility of the Year.
