Project recognised for renewing city’s heart

The Junction Place development has been recognised with an award. At the 2016 UDIA Awards for Excellence, Places Victoria won the Judges’ Award – Regional Victoria – for the Junction Place project, which is revitalising central Wodonga.

The judges acknowledged Places Victoria is driving capital investment and creating opportunities for the private sector through joint venture development agreements.

Mayor Anna Speedie said the acknowledgement was a testament to the positive work that was happening in Wodonga’s central business area. “Our people told us they wanted a vibrant city heart and we are already seeing this precinct becoming an attraction with some great eating places becoming established,” she said.

Junction Place has three main public spaces. Together they create a new public network for central Wodonga that complement the current open spaces throughout the city centre. These spaces are linked and follow the alignment of the former railway line; The ‘Green Square’ is an open, shady, informal park for locals and visitors to relax in the centre of the Junction Place development.

The ‘Promenade’ follows the former railway line and creates a new east-west pedestrian link between the historic Station Building to the South, Goods Shed to the North, ‘Urban Square’ to the East, and ‘Green Square’ to the West.

StraBe Group was privileged to have worked with the City of Wodonga  to supply the public domain furniture for this precinct.
